The 42cast Episode 23: Fast Forward

Sometimes just reading Geek Stranger isn’t enough. Sometimes you just have to listen… and where can you listen to me geek out with fellow nerds about the (sometimes) Fastest Man Alive? Come along as we run our mouths about Central City’s team of Speedsters and their shiny adversary from Season 3. Yeah, it’s a bit late, but blame Barry for that. I mean, he’s a time travelling speedster, but he can be an awful procrastinator at times:

Running for the finish line on our review of the DC TV series on the CW, we discuss season 3 of The Flash. This season had some surprising twists and turns that left fandom feeling a little shaky. This week we talk about the storylines, how we felt about them, and what we feel like this means for season 4.

This doesn't have to be our little secret:

The 42cast Episode 22: Jumping the Network

Sometimes just reading Geek Stranger isn’t enough. Sometimes you just have to listen… and where can you listen to me geek out with fellow nerds about the Girl of Steel? Come along as we fly deep into National City, which looks an awful lot like LA from a distance, but Vancouver when you get really, really close, but never ever looks like Smallville, except when it does:

This week we take a look at Supergirl’s sophmore season. The series had a surprising rescue when CBS declined to renew it for a second season and the CW decided to pick it up. The new showrunners decided to alter some elements of the show. The second season saw the debut of many new characters as well as a heightened political commentary. In this episode we talk about the changed premises, the new characters, and what happens when you jump the network.

The 42cast Episode 20: Agents of Hydra

Sometimes just reading Geek Stranger isn’t enough. Sometimes you just have to listen… and where can you listen to me geek out with fellow nerds about the moral and philosophical implications of a matrix-esque reality in the Framework? Am I in it now? Would it matter? Listen as we discuss the third part of a season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that’s upped its game from season to season! What’s better than the villains getting the spotlight? Turning our heroes into villains! It’s Marvel’s What-If on the little screen:

Join the episode as we discuss the fifth season of Marvel’s Agents of Hydra. Follow agents Ward, May, and Skye as they hunt down the Inhuman filth infesting the planet. We’ll also follow the exploits of ineffective resistance movement, run by the treacherous Jeffrey Mace and his allies. We go through all the ins and outs of the season, from the awesomeness of Madame Hydra to new character, Simmons, and her ties to the corrupt S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. We also talk about why we should care about a schoolteacher and a law-abiding citizen with his daughter.

The 42cast Episode 19: Back to Basics

Sometimes just reading Geek Stranger isn’t enough. Sometimes you just have to listen… and where can you listen to me geek out with fellow nerds about that last season of CW’s emerald clad hero, Arrow? How does Ollie make things worse by brooding? How does Felicity make things better by computer-ing? Or… is this the rare season where Oliver isn’t his own worst enemy and Felicity makes a few bad decisions? Also, there are others in Team Arrow, too! (probably):

In this episode we take a look back at season 5 of Arrow. This season took a back-to-basics approach that showed the consequences of some of Oliver’s actions, brought back some old faces, and moved him forward as a character. There were also several new faces. In this episode we talk about the new and the old and talk about what worked and what didn’t before discussing where we hope season 6 is heading.

The 42cast Episode 18: Legion of Doom

Sometimes just reading Geek Stranger isn’t enough. Sometimes you just have to listen… and where can you listen to me geek out with fellow nerds about the CW’s Legends of Tomorrow season two? Listen as we try to decide if this is actually a really good show, despite its weaker first season, with characters and stories worth following, or if its just a fluke of focusing on the guys who make any story interesting- because everyone secretly loves the bad boys… :

The second season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow brought a new direction, new characters, and some changes for some old ones. It also saw the formation of the Arrowverse’s first team of villains, The Legion of Doom. This week, The 42cast talks about the second season of Legends of Tomorrow and focuses in on the villains.

The 42cast Episode 17: The Final Battle

Sometimes just reading Geek Stranger isn’t enough. Sometimes you just have to listen… and where can you listen to me geek out with fellow nerds about that second half of last season’s Once Upon a Time? I know you’ve been waiting with your breath held for this, but now the curse has been lifted and you get to hear us talk about what worked and what didn’t, and why this Disney adaption is entertaining for everyone, not just kids and women… Or maybe I’m just a kid at heart. The two aren’t mutually exclusive!:

In this episode we bid a tearful farewell to the epic Disney fairy tale series, Once Upon a Time. We look in on the second half of the season and of course, The Final Battle. We talk about our favorite characters, what we miss, what we would change, the wrap up, and how we’ll miss this series….Wait. What do you mean that it’s renewed for another season? With that ending…really?!

The 42cast Episode 16: Doubling Down

Sometimes just reading Geek Stranger isn’t enough. Sometimes you just have to listen… and where can you listen to me geek out with fellow nerds about that family of misfits that will charge you to save the galaxy but leave you laughing as they do it? Where can you hear me talk about Kurt Russel’s penis? Nowhere! But if you want to hear us talk about what may be the MCU’s best villain since Loki…:

We finally start our summer movie podcasts! Grab your walkman and moonwalk over to your parents’ place, because The 42cast delves into the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. This time we’re talking about the series as a stand alone film, part of the MCU, and as a comic adaptation. How does it measure up?

This doesn't have to be our little secret:

The 42cast Episode 15: The Fourth Defender

Sometimes just reading Geek Stranger isn’t enough. Sometimes you just have to listen… and where can you listen to me geek out with fellow nerds about Danny Rand, the Immortal Iron Fist? He’s the one you love to hate and hate to… well… no. Don’t worry, it’s not an entire bash fest. We find the redeemable in Marvel and Netflix’s after thought of a series:

This is it, the fourth Netflix series co-produced with Marvel, which introduced the last of the four characters that they’d promised since 2014. After three amazing series, the public was primed for Iron Fist but for some reason it didn’t hit as well as the other three. In this episode we dive into that.

Why that Game of Thrones Season Finale Reveal Isn’t a Big Deal

Geek Stranger is coming out from under the water here in our super secret (but thankfully not underground!) lair in Houston, Texas, where we managed to still have power and cable long enough to do what we do best- destroy your hopes and dreams!

In tonight’s edition of why you’re wrong and I’m right, we delve into the Season 7 finale of Game of Thrones, and the major reveal of a fan favorite. If you haven’t seen the episode, and are not a fan of being spoiled rotten, go see it (legally- or with your mom’s HBONow password) and come back.

The 42cast Episode 13: Streams do Come True

Sometimes just reading Geek Stranger isn’t enough. Sometimes you just have to listen… and where can you listen to me geek out with fellow nerds about getting progressively poorer as we admit we might have a problem with streaming content? Where can you listen to some of us struggle against the injustice, and some of us admitting we’re going all in, warp core to the wall? It’s episode 13 of the 42cast! Listen in. I mean, unless you’re superstitious and scared… :

It seems like you can’t look at the internet anymore without reading a report about some new streaming service starting up. This episode we look into what’s going on with all these services. Can they survive with a single, popular product? Can the consumer base afford to have so many streaming services at a time? What happens to Netflix and Hulu as more and more providers jump ship? How much will piracy effect things? Just what does happen when you cross the streams?
